Tutorial: How to copy media files from WebWhatsApp and add them to my zapptales book

Unfortunately, it can sometimes happen that WhatsApp does not upload all media files from your chat. This is because Android limits the data volume you can export from WhatsApp. This problem is caused by Android on WhatsApp and it is beyond our power to influence this.

We have, however, come up with a solution so that you can still add the missing media to your zapptales book:

On the zapptales chat edition page, you find place holders in those places where there are media files missing. Please make sure that the “add media” function is activated, as the place holders are only visible in this mode. You can now manually add the missing media.

Please note:

This can only be done on a computer
This tutorial is made using the Google Chrome browser. We recommend you also use the Google Chrome browser.

To access your WhatsApp media files and insert them into your chat, please follow these steps:

Option 1) Automatically upload pictures (our recommendation if you have a large number of pictures – does not work for videos and voice messages)

Your chat is missing a large number of pictures, but only a few voice messages and videos? In this case, we recommend you use this automated option to upload your pictures and include the missing videos and voice messages manually later on.

Option 1) Recommended if you want to upload a large number of pictures (does not work for videos and voice messages)

If you want to upload a large number of pictures all in one go, we suggest you use our chrome extension. Please follow these steps:

Upload the WhatsApp Chat in question one more time, but this time without media and via e-mail to en@zapptales.com (please do not use the zapptales app to upload the chat – select the email option when exporting your chat)
Install the zapptales chrome extension in Google Chrome on your PC: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/zapptales/cjblfpnbnjacmdghkcllignifbbhmlcn?hl=de
Open the chat you have uploaded to zapptales on WebWhatsApp https://web.whatsapp.com/
In your Google Chrome browser, click on the purple “z” – that’s the zapptales extension – and follow the steps in the tutorial.
Now, please use your new login data to access the chat you uploaded in step 1)

This is where the magic comes in: the zapptales Chrome extension now starts to upload your pictures from WebWhatsApp to your zapptales chat for you 😊

Option 2) Download and import missing media manually (works for all types of media files)

1. Open WebWhatsApp and the zapptales chat edition page in two separate windows

Start by opening your personal zapptales chat edition page and WebWhatsApp (https://web.whatsapp.com/) in two separate windows.

2. Log in to WebWhatsApp

In order to log in to WebWhatsApp, please:

Open WhatsApp on your smartphone
Click onto the three small dots in the top right hand corner
Select WebWhatsApp and scan the QR Code on https://web.whatsapp.com/ in order to log in to WebWhatsApp

3. Download pictures and add them to zapptales

On WebWhatsApp, start by going to the section of the chat that has the missing picture
–> the easiest way of doing this is by searching for a message close to the missing picture
On the relevant picture, click on the arrow pointing downwards and select “download”
–> if the picture hasn’t previously been downloaded, you first have to click on the large arrow on the picture.
The picture now appears as a downloaded file in the bar at the bottom of the page.
Return to your chat edition page.
Drag and drop the picture you downloaded into its place holder on the chat edition page using your mouse.
Well done! You have uploaded your first picture to zapptales. Repeat this process until you have uploaded all the pictures you want to include in your book 😊

4. Download voice messages and videos and add them to zapptales

On WebWhatsApp, start by going to the section of the chat that has the missing video / voice message
–> if the video / voice message hasn’t previously been downloaded, you first have to click on the large arrow that appears on the media file.
The, on the relevant video / voice message, click on the arrow pointing downwards and select “download”
Return to your chat edition page.
Click on the “Upload Media” button in the relevant place holder and select the matching media file. You normally find this file in the “Downloads” folder of your computer.
Great job! You have uploaded the video / voice message to zapptales. Repeat this process until you have uploaded all the videos / voice messages you want to include in your book 😊

If you want to upload a large number of pictures all in one go, we suggest you use our chrome extension. Please follow these steps:

–> if the video / voice message hasn’t previously been downloaded, you first have to click on the large arrow that appears on the media file.
The, on the relevant video / voice message, click on the arrow pointing downwards and select “download”
Return to your chat edition page.
Click on the “Upload Media” button in the relevant place holder and select the matching media file. You normally find this file in the “Downloads” folder of your computer.
Great job! You have uploaded the video / voice message to zapptales. Repeat this process until you have uploaded all the videos / voice messages you want to include in your book 😊
